The cornea is the clear tissue at the front and center of the eye. Its transparency permits light to pass into the eye, through the pupil, lens, and onto the retina at the back of the eye. 

Corneal Medical Treatments

1. Cornea Emergency 

Abrasions: Includes scratches or scrapes on the surface of the cornea

Chemical injuries: Caused by almost any fluid that gets into the eye

Foreign bodies: Exposure to something in the eye such as sand or dust

Ultraviolet injuries: Caused by sunlight, sun lamps, snow or water reflections, or arc-welding

2. Keratoconus Evaluation: Keratoconus is a common corneal disorder where the central or paracentral cornea undergoes progressive thinning and steepening causing irregular astigmatism.
3. Uveitis: Uveitis is inflammation of the uvea — the middle layer of the eye that consists of the iris, ciliary body and choroid. Uveitis can have many causes, including eye injury and inflammatory diseases. Exposure to toxic chemicals such as pesticides and acids used in manufacturing processes also can cause uveitis.
